Oatmeal-apple pancakes at the Forward

Liz Steinberg

Oatmeal, apple and whole wheat? Guilt-free pancakes? Yes, please — check out the recipe (and the accompanying story about weekends in Tel Aviv) that I wrote for the Jewish Daily Forward. Or in other words, this is my excuse for, er, not writing anything for my own blog.

And while you’re over there, you can check out my story (also on the Forward’s site) about the history of jachnun, written with thanks to the lovely cooks who helped me but wished not to be named. (Did you know that jachnun was originally baked under the taboun’s embers? Isn’t that cool?) The recipe and the story are different from the post I wrote about jachnun a year ago.

And … for those of you getting your updates by e-mail or RSS, you can check out my Facebook page, where I’ve been posting links to recipes I made and liked from other people’s websites (as well as updates from my own blog). The page has been around for a while, but I’ve never mentioned it in my blog before. Don’t worry, clicking on the link won’t automatically subscribe you to the page or something.

So, there you have it — two recipes for the weekend, and some bonus posts via Facebook. Shabbat Shalom!

  3. Liz, I just left a comment at the Jew and the carrot’s site– I love your description of Shabbat in Tel Aviv, makes me miss it there, but also makes me long for the days of sleeping in, late breakfasts and doing whatever we wanted with our quiet time. Parenthood is wonderful too, but it’s important to have those days to look back on…. Also, the pancakes look great!

  4. Come back and visit!

One day you will have quiet weekends again, it just might take another 15 years ….
