I saw your post in my reader, and thought, finally, what to do with okra (besides frying or thickening stew)! I wouldn't have thought that boiling could be the end result. And I DO have citric acid. I use it to keep my avocado salad from browning. The okra in your picture doesn't look boiled; can you also roast it? I know your dilemma. I started writing about frozen bananas and grapes because my kids love them so much, but I always find I have more to say. Maybe I can start a monthly Linky where we can share pictures and love notes to whatever is in season.

I agree with you on the recipe writer's dilemma! There is nothing like a perfect peach that you eat all by itself. Same with cherries and apricots.

I do love okra a simple Indian way, briefly sauteed with a little hot pepper and salt, and by a Lebanese recipe--sauteed in olive oil with garlic, tomatoes and cilantro. Very interesting about the citric acid. I will try it.

I was JUST looking for a simple okra recipe to link to from my blog (I was describing how cherries and little okras are all over the shuk) and could not find one. This is perfect, and also makes me want okra :)

For what it's worth, I think there needs to be more recipes, or I suppose serving suggestions, like this. I would have no CLUE what to do with okra, and sometimes the reassurance of simple is nice. :)
