I've had the shaved horseradish, and what can I say? I'm still partial to the pulpy stuff. Brings out more flavor, for better or worse.

I'm sure the homemade chrein is lovely!

A friend gave me a jar of homemade horseradish (with beets, she made chrein, actually) and it was so delicious I've never had store-bought since and now make my own. Yes, when you open the lid of the food processor it can bring a tear, or two, or 100, to your eyes.

For the Pesach seder I don't pulverize the root, I go at it with a potato peeler (the shaver kind) and we have shavings of horseradish when the time comes. It's a kinder, gentler horseradish.
