No, here it's a rather subdued affair -- people have parties, but you can't tell it's New Year's Eve just by going outside.

There's also a Jewish new year in the fall, which most people take much more seriously.

You are absolutely right, Liz. We call the last day of the year (31. of december) Silvester in Germany.

I read the last day of the year is named after the former bishop Silvester the first who was bishop of rome between 314 and the year 335.

Are fireworks in Isreal also used to welcome the new year as in Germany?

Yeah, we have two considerations regarding the eggs. We use them when we want the pasta to be richer, and we don't use them when we remember that we're trying to minimize our consumption of animal-based products.

Awesome recipe, Liz. I remember the days when I spent 3 hours on one dish...it'll be a while until I have that time again. I usually make my pasta with eggs. I like the flavor and texture. Is there a reason why you would make it with/without?
